Classic and sports car rally through the Borbera and Curone Valleys
The Rocchetta Auto-Historic is a tourist rally reserved for classic and sports cars of historical interest, held annually in Rocchetta Ligure, a small and charming village in the Province of Alessandria nestled in the Val Borbera, at the southeastern tip of Piedmont. Despite the name, Rocchetta Ligure is a Piedmontese municipality: it is located just a stone's throw from the Ligurian border, in an Apennine landscape of green valleys, scenic roads, and ancient stone villagesโthe ideal setting for an event dedicated to vintage four-wheelers.
The rally's format is simple and well-established. In the morning, cars gather in the center of Rocchetta Ligure for registration and the static display, accompanied by a welcome breakfast offered by local sponsors. This is followed by a scenic tour of approximately 30 kilometers, which winds through the panoramic roads of the Borbera and Curone Valleys, concluding in the locality of San Nazzaro with the traditional convivial lunch.
Each edition attracts dozens of crews and fascinating vehicles. Sedans and coupes that have made automotive history, collectible sports cars, and well-preserved youngtimers all take part. Recent editions have featured famous models from both Italian and international traditions, alongside cars linked to the world of rallying, a discipline particularly beloved in these valleys.
Rocchetta Auto-Historic is organized by the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Rocchetta Ligure in collaboration with the Vivi Borbera e Spinti association, with the support of local sponsors and businesses. It is much more than just a car rally: it is an opportunity to showcase the landscape and gastronomic heritage of the Alessandria Apennines, promote the villages of Val Borbera, and bring together a community of enthusiasts in a genuine and friendly atmosphere. A firmly established date in the motoring calendar of lower Piedmont.
The 2026 edition of the Rocchetta Auto-Historic was a great success, with over 70 vehicles participating. Among the most admired models was a Lancia Stratos, the true queen of the event, and an Opel Kadett GTE Group 2, both associated with rally driver Federico Ormezzano. There was no shortage of Alfa Romeos, Porsche 911 Turbos, Lancia Fulvia Coupรฉs, Fiat 124 Abarths, Lancia Delta Integrales, and numerous well-preserved youngtimers.
The day began at 9:00 AM with registration, the display, and breakfast provided by Panificio Bronzini and Azienda Agricola Sassobraglia. At 11:30 AM, the 30 km scenic tour through the Borbera and Curone Valleys departed, arriving around 12:30 PM in San Nazzaro at the "Da Bruno" restaurant for the final lunch. Guest of honor: former rally driver Federico Ormezzano.
Rocchetta Ligure can be reached by car from the A7 Milan-Genoa motorway (Vignole Borbera exit) by heading up the Val Borbera; alternatively, from the A26 motorway, take the Arquata Scrivia exit. The nearest train station is Arquata Scrivia, on the Genoa-Milan line.
Participation is limited. Pre-registration by contacting the organizers via email is recommended. The rally requires a registration fee per vehicle and an optional final lunch for an additional cost.
We recommend arriving in the morning to enjoy the car display and the welcome breakfast. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the village's narrow streets.
