The Roccavivi Patronal Feast

In the heart of the Abruzzo summer, around the Ferragosto holiday, the village of Roccavivi, in the municipality of San Vincenzo Valle Roveto (L'Aquila province, Abruzzo), comes alive for its Patronal Feast. From August 13th to 16th, this small town in the Marsican Valle Roveto becomes a meeting point for the entire community and neighboring villages, in a blend of devotion, tradition, and entertainment passed down through generations.

The Patron Saints

The festivities pay homage to four figures dear to the community, each with their own dedicated day:

• Saint Philomena, virgin and martyr, with the traditional transport of the statue to the mother church;
• Our Lady of Grace, whose ancient and venerated image is the object of deep devotion;
• Our Lady of the Assumption, patron saint on the day of Ferragosto;
• Saint Roch, who concludes the cycle of celebrations.

The religious heart of the festival

The spiritual core is marked by solemn liturgical celebrations and processions experienced with authentic participation. One of the most evocative moments is the descent of the image of Our Lady of Grace from the sanctuary of Roccavecchia to the village, accompanied by the faithful. The parish of S. Maria Assunta leads the rites that unite the community in prayer and celebration.

Evening entertainment

Alongside the religious dimension, the Roccavivi Patronal Feast offers a rich secular program that fills the evenings with music and events. There is no shortage of artistic illuminations, marching bands, traditional games, children's entertainment, a street food festival, and breathtaking firework displays that light up the Valle Roveto sky. Each year, the lineup alternates between big names in Italian music, tribute bands, and traditional concert bands.

A festival by the youth

One of the unique features of Roccavivi is that the organization is entrusted entirely to the young members of the Patronal Feast Committee: they are the ones who preserve the town's roots and project them into the future with enthusiasm and community spirit. A model of volunteering that makes these days even more special and heartfelt.
