Rocca Priora, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, is the highest town in the Castelli Romani: from its 768-meter altitude, the view stretches across the Roman countryside all the way to the sea. It is here, on Piazzale Zanardelli—the Belvedere that locals consider the town's open-air living room—that the Rocca Priora Bruschetta Festival takes place every summer, standing as one of the longest-running and most popular food events in the hilly Lazio region.

Bruschetta, a humble dish turned into a celebration

Bruschetta is the perfect synthesis of rural Lazio cuisine: toasted homemade bread, a clove of garlic, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Over the years, the festival has built a true catalog of flavors upon this essential base, with dozens of variations offered by volunteers each evening: fresh tomato and basil, anchovies, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, local cheeses, and cured meats, alongside the most imaginative combinations created by local food lovers. For several editions, a gluten-free line has also been available, ensuring everyone can join the table.

Music, dancing, and evenings under the stars

The festival formula alternates the gastronomic experience with a popular entertainment program: dance orchestras, cover bands playing hits from Italian music history, local singers, and evenings dedicated to families and children. The stands typically open at 7:00 PM, and the Belvedere remains lively until late, when the cool hill air makes even the peak of August pleasant: those coming up from Rome should bring a light jacket.

The bond with Saint Roch

The festival is not an isolated event but the convivial side of the Patronal Feast of Saint Roch, which is celebrated in Rocca Priora on August 16th with a procession of the saint's statue through the streets of the historic center. The organization is led by the festival committee of the Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo Parish, with the support of the Municipality: it is a town event in the truest sense, built by residents for residents and the many vacationers who flock to the Castelli Romani in August.

A piece of the Lazio summer

Together with the nearby Porcini Mushroom Festival and the Lamb Festival in the hamlet of Colle di Fuori, the Bruschetta Festival shapes the summer calendar of Rocca Priora and attracts visitors from all the Castelli towns—Frascati, Monte Compatri, Rocca di Papa, Velletri—as well as from the capital. It is the ideal occasion to combine a stroll through the village, a sunset from the Belvedere, and an informal dinner based on local products in the heart of the Lazio region.
