Ancient Rome relives where the empire was decided in 69 AD.
Calvatone, a municipality in the province of Cremona within the Oglio Sud Park, holds the traces of ancient Bedriacum, a Padan village that became famous in 69 AD, the Year of the Four Emperors, when the battles that decided the Roman imperial succession were fought nearby. The Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Bedriacum was created to tell this page of history in the very place where it occurred.
The heart of the event is the Roman camp set up by the historical group Legio II Germanica, which offers educational activities on Roman society and army: military life, equipment, legion organization. Visitors, adults and children, can come into direct contact with the daily life of the Roman world.
The program alternates educational moments with spectacular narrations: the "Battle of the Four Emperors" and "The Battles of Bedriacum" come to life through storytelling and staging, with the participation of an equestrian group that adds spectacle to the re-enactment.
The event is organized by the POBIC Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Calvatone, the Oglio Sud Park, the Association For History, and Legio II Germanica. The event, for charitable purposes, enhances the archaeological site of Bedriacum and the historical identity of this corner of the Cremona plain.
The 2026 edition will repeat the tried-and-tested format of the re-enactment: the Roman camp set up by Legio II Germanica, educational activities on Roman society and army, spectacular narrations of the battles of Bedriacum, and educational sessions with the equestrian group. The event is organized by the POBIC Association with the Municipality of Calvatone, Oglio Sud Park, and the Association For History. Precise dates and the day-by-day program will be communicated closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with dates and times, will be published by the organizers closer to the event. The usual structure includes: opening of the camp with educational activities on Roman society and army, spectacular narrations of the battles of Bedriacum, and educational sessions with the equestrian group, as well as convivial moments with dinner and lunch.
