A commemorative walk through the partisan hills of Calosso
The Resistance Walk is a civic commemoration event held in Calosso, a small town in the Province of Asti nestled among the Moscato hills in the heart of Piedmont. The initiative uniquely links the pleasure of slow walking through vineyards and woods with the memory of the Partisan Resistance, held around April 25th, Liberation Day.
The meeting point is Piazza Sant'Alessandro, in the center of Calosso. From here, the approximately six-kilometer walk begins, winding along dirt roads and quiet country paths up to Bricco Crevacuore, a panoramic viewpoint that has become a place of remembrance for the partisans who fell in the Fausano valley. Along the way, there are short stops with readings dedicated to the liberation struggle, and a small commemorative ceremony is held upon arrival.
The day does not end with the walk. Upon returning to the Don Monticone Hall, the program features screenings of documentaries and short films about the local area and partisan memory, often with the directors in attendance, as well as musical-literary readings that weave together words and live music. It is a way to transform a walk into a complete cultural experience, accessible to families, hikers, and history enthusiasts.
The event is born from the collaboration between the ANPI of Costigliole d'Asti and the provincial branch, the Pro Loco of Calosso, the Amici di Calosso association, and the Camminare lentamente association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Calosso. Participation is free and open to all, in line with the popular and shared spirit of the event.
Calosso can be reached by car from Asti (about 25 km) or from Canelli, along the hilly roads of the Moscato region. The nearest train stations are in Canelli or Asti, from where you can continue by car.
The meeting point is Piazza Sant'Alessandro, in the center of Calosso. The afternoon walk usually starts at 3:00 PM.
Hiking shoes and trekking poles are recommended: the route takes place on dirt roads and country paths with short uphill sections. In case of bad weather, an indoor alternative is planned, with a visit to the museum space and screenings.
Participation in the walk and cultural events is free. Any lunch at local restaurants is by reservation and at your own expense.
