The celebration of June 2nd in the Lucanian capital with ceremony, music, and honors
As every year, on June 2nd, Potenza celebrates the Republic Day with a program curated by the Prefecture of Potenza that blends the solemnity of the institutional ceremony with moments of music and culture open to the public. It is one of the most cherished civil anniversaries in the Lucanian capital.
In the morning, the city gathers for the laying of a wreath at the monument to the fallen in Montereale Park and for the official ceremony in Piazza Mario Pagano, with the flag-raising, the performance of the Italian National Anthem, and honors rendered to the authorities.
In the evening, the "Francesco Stabile" Municipal Theater hosts a concert by the 131 Symphony Orchestra of Basilicata, followed by the ceremony for awarding honors of the Order of "Merit of the Italian Republic" to citizens who have distinguished themselves for their civil, social, and cultural commitment.
Involving institutions, schools, associations, and citizens, June 2nd in Potenza is an occasion to rediscover the values of the Republic and to highlight the excellence of the Lucanian territory, in an atmosphere of participation and civil pride.
The 2026 edition of the Republic Day in Potenza features the Lucanian singer Arisa, who grew up in Pignola and was awarded the title of Knight of the Republic. The day combines ceremony, symphonic music, and honors.
Piazza Mario Pagano and the Teatro Stabile are located in the center of Potenza, reachable on foot from the parking lots and via the city's escalators.
The ceremony in the square is open to all; for the evening concert at the Teatro Stabile, entry may be by invitation or registration.
Accommodation facilities in the historic center and in the districts of Potenza.
