Republic Day is the most important Italian civil holiday, and in Campobasso it is celebrated with institutional ceremonies in the heart of the city, promoted by the Prefecture and the Municipality. In 2026, the event takes on a special meaning: it marks the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic.
Ceremonies and honors
The morning is dedicated to institutional moments: in Piazza della Vittoria, the Prefecture lays a wreath at the Monument to the Fallen, while in Piazza G. Pepe, the flag-raising ceremony takes place, the President of the Republic's message is read, and the "Merit of the Italian Republic" honors are awarded to distinguished citizens.
Open Palaces and Quirinale Concert
In the afternoon, the celebration opens to the city with the extraordinary opening of institutional buildings—the Prefecture Palace, Palazzo San Giorgio, the Bank of Italy hall, and the garden of the "M. Pagano" National Boarding School—with guided tours by the MoliseRadici Association accompanied by musicians from the Conservatory. In the evening, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the Quirinale Concert is broadcast. Public buildings are illuminated with the tricolor.

- 10:00 AM — Piazza della Vittoria: Laying of a wreath at the Monument to the Fallen by the Prefecture
- Piazza G. Pepe: Flag-raising, reading of the President of the Republic's message, awarding of "Merit of the Italian Republic" honors
- 6:00 PM–9:00 PM — Extraordinary opening of the Prefecture Palace, Palazzo San Giorgio, the Bank of Italy hall, and the garden of the "M. Pagano" National Boarding School, with guided tours by the MoliseRadici Association accompanied by musicians from the Conservatory
- Free opening of the Museum in Palazzo Pistilli until 11:00 PM
- 9:00 PM — Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II: Broadcast of the Quirinale Concert
On June 1st and 2nd, public buildings were illuminated with the tricolor.

How to get there
The ceremonies take place in the center of Campobasso (Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza Pepe, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II). The city is reachable by car from the SS17 and SS647 and by train.
