A benchmark for Italian dance
The 'Renato Fiumicelli' Dance Competition Festival is one of the longest-running and most appreciated national dance competitions in Italy. Organized by the Gubbio City Dance School, it takes place in the heart of the Umbrian city, on the stage of the prestigious Luca Ronconi Municipal Theatre.
Competition sections
The competition welcomes dancers of all ages and levels, divided into several sections:
- Classical and Neoclassical;
- Modern and Contemporary;
- Urban and Hip Hop;
- Character dances.
The juries, composed of prominent figures in the choreographic world, evaluate the students, offering them an opportunity for comparison and visibility.
Gubbio, capital of dance
For a weekend, Gubbio, in the province of Perugia, becomes a major meeting point for schools, teachers, families, and enthusiasts from all over Italy. In addition to the competition, the festival offers masterclasses with internationally renowned guests, transforming the event into a moment of high-level training.
Fiumicelli Festival — edition 2026
The 43rd edition of the 'Renato Fiumicelli' Dance Competition Festival was held in Gubbio from March 27-29, 2026, on the stage of the Luca Ronconi Municipal Theatre, with the theme 'Dancing Beyond Borders'. The event, organized by the Gubbio City Dance School, attracted over 800 dancers from all over Italy, for a total of more than 2,000 visitors in the city during the weekend. The guest of honor was étoile Eleonora Abbagnato, director of the Ballet Company and Dance School of the Rome Opera House.
Programme Fiumicelli Festival 2026
The competition was spread over three days, from March 27 to 29, 2026, at the Luca Ronconi Municipal Theatre, with the various competition sections (Classical, Neoclassical, Modern, Contemporary, Urban, Hip Hop, and Character).
- Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 — Competition performances in the various sections and categories, judged by the jury;
- Sunday, March 29 — Day with the guest of honor Eleonora Abbagnato, who held a masterclass for advanced students, was present in the afternoon as a judge, and conducted scouting activities for the Rome Opera House Dance School.

How to get there
Gubbio can be reached by car from the E45 or by bus from Perugia and Fossato di Vico. The Luca Ronconi Municipal Theatre is located in the historic center.
Participation
Registration for the competition is reserved for dancers and schools according to the regulations published on the official website. The performances are open to the public.
