About Regata dei Borghi più belli d'Italia

Every year, the crystal-clear waters of Cefalù, in the heart of Sicily's Tyrrhenian coast, host the Regata dei Borghi più belli d'Italia, a sailing event that blends sport, conviviality, and local heritage. Dozens of offshore vessels compete along coastal routes between Termini Imerese, Cefalù, and the Castello di Roccella, while spectators watch the maneuvers directly from the promenade. Now a classic of Sicilian sailing, the event draws crews and owners from across the island.

The regatta that brings sailing to Cefalù

The Regata dei Borghi più belli d'Italia is one of the most anticipated events of the Sicilian sailing season, taking place in the waters of Cefalù, a jewel of the Tyrrhenian coast in the Province of Palermo, Sicily. For several years, this event has become an unmissable classic, successfully combining competitive offshore sailing with the promotion of one of the Mediterranean's most scenic villages, dominated by its famous Rocca and the UNESCO-listed Norman Cathedral.

A collective event for island sailing

The regatta is organized by the Municipality of Cefalù in partnership with the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and a wide network of sailing clubs: the Lega Navale of Palermo, the Lega Navale of Termini Imerese, the Velaclub Cefalù, and the Velaclub Termini Imerese. This collaboration makes the event a collective effort that brings together sailing enthusiasts from the entire northern coast of the island.

Vessels and categories

Registered vessels compete in three categories, designed to accommodate both highly competitive racers and crews who view sailing as a social passion:

  • Crociera Regata
  • Gran Crociera Veleggiata
  • FIV/ORC Light

Routes among the coastal villages

The races span several days and cover a stretch of coastline of great beauty. It begins with a coastal regatta from Termini Imerese to Cefalù, followed by a buoy race in the waters facing the city's promenade; the competition concludes with a coastal regatta from Cefalù to the Castello di Roccella, heading towards Campofelice di Roccella. The proximity of the race courses to the shore allows the public to follow the maneuvers comfortably from land, along Cefalù's famous promenade.

Sport, conviviality, and territory

Beyond the sporting dimension, the Regata dei Borghi più belli d'Italia is an occasion for meeting and celebration: at the end of the races, crews gather for social moments, including pasta parties and award ceremonies, in an atmosphere that makes sailing a vehicle for integration and discovery of the region. The event thus celebrates the deep bond between the sea, sport, and the most beautiful villages of Sicily.
