The community festival of the hamlet of Rastignano, in Pianoro
Rastitown in Festa is the most anticipated event of the year in Rastignano, a populous hamlet of the Municipality of Pianoro, on the outskirts of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna. The event is organized by the Comitato Le Botteghe di Rastignano and was created with a precise spirit: "a community festival for the community". For an entire weekend in May, traders, the Pro Loco of Pianoro, schools, the parish, and volunteer associations join forces to transform the town into a large shared space for celebration.
The heart of the festival is the Parco di Villa Pini, Rastignano's green lung, alongside Piazza della Fontana, where the street food stands are concentrated. Along the park, the stalls of traders and associations are lined up, while lawns and paths host shows, games, and areas dedicated to children.
Among the events most cherished by the community is the award ceremony for "Rastignanese dell'anno" (Rastignano Person of the Year), an award that the hamlet dedicates to those who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to the town. It is a sign that Rastitown is not just a street festival, but a moment of collective identity that tells the story of the solidarity spirit of this corner of the Bolognese Apennines.
Rastitown in Festa has free admission: you only pay for what you consume at the food stands. The festival is sponsored by the Municipality of Pianoro, Confcommercio Ascom Bologna, and BCC Felsinea, confirming the event's deep roots in the economic and social fabric of the area. A weekend in May to be enjoyed with family, with good food, music, and the authentic hospitality of Rastignano.
