There is a village in Basilicata where, every summer, fairy tales truly come to life. It is Rapone, a small village in the province of Potenza, which with its Fairy Tale Festival has become one of the most anticipated events in all of Southern Italy. For a few days in August, alleys and squares transform into an open-air book: you walk among shows, music, theater, and wonder, in an immersive experience designed for adults and children alike.

Rapone, Land of Fairy Tales

The festival is the beating heart of the "Rapone, Land of Fairy Tales" project, born in 2010 and grown to become a model of cultural regeneration, among the best Italian projects in the field of cultural heritage. Along the fairy tale routes, with multiple departures in the afternoon and evening, you will encounter theatrical and musical performances inspired by classic and folk fairy tales, aerial dance, jugglers, performers, and street artists, as well as creative workshops, face painting, and baby dance.

A Network Looking to Europe

Rapone is not alone on this journey: the project maintains international relations with the Deutsche Märchenstraße, the famous German Fairy Tale Route linked to the Brothers Grimm, and with the Danish city of Odense, the homeland of Hans Christian Andersen. A thread that unites European and Italian fairy tale traditions, recalling how the Grimm tales themselves have roots in the Cunto de li cunti by Neapolitan Giambattista Basile.

Magic All Year Round

Alongside the festival, Rapone offers permanent attractions: a multimedia sensory path, an interactive museum, the garden of wishes, and an adventure park. Promoted by the Municipality of Rapone, the Fairy Tale Festival attracts visitors from Campania, Puglia, and Lazio, confirming itself as a virtuous example of how culture can revive a small inland village in Basilicata.
