About Rally di Roma Capitale

The Rally di Roma Capitale is the most significant motorsport event in the Lazio region: an international race held every July that brings Rally2 cars from the historic center of Rome, at the foot of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, to timed special stages across the hills of the Rieti, Rome, and Frosinone provinces. A counting round for both the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) and the Italian Absolute Rally Championship (CIAR), it gathers drivers from dozens of nations for a weekend of sport, spectacle, and automotive passion.

The Rally di Roma Capitale

The Rally di Roma Capitale is the most prestigious rally race in Lazio and one of the highlights of the Italian motorsport calendar. Organized by Motorsport Italia under the direction of Max Rendina, the event was established in its modern form in 2013 and has grown to become, since 2017, a stage of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) as well as a round of the Italian Absolute Rally Championship (CIAR). The headquarters and service park are located in the Rome metropolitan area, while the ceremonial start brings competitors into the heart of the Capital, between the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums.

A route between Rome and the mountains of Lazio

The rally's format combines the spectacle of the city with the toughness of the special stages. The race kicks off with the evocative city stage in the shadow of the Colosseum, before moving onto the timed roads that cross the province of Rome, the Rieti area, and the province of Frosinone. Among the most famous sections are the stages around Lake Turano, the long and demanding Vallecupola, the Piana di Rascino plateau rising over 1,600 meters, and the Monte Livata climb, a true classic beloved by enthusiasts. It is a route that tests both men and machines, featuring fast asphalt, hairpin bends, and the landscapes of the Lazio Apennines.

Sport, territory, and spectacle

The Rally di Roma Capitale is more than just a competition: it is a grand celebration of motorsports that involves the entire region. Each edition attracts dozens of crews from all over Europe, with a strong presence of Rally2 cars from major manufacturers. The event has received awards for its organizational quality, including the "Golden Helmet" from Autosprint, and has developed a strong focus on sustainability and safety over the years. For the municipalities of Lazio crossed by the special stages, the rally represents an opportunity for visibility and tourism promotion, drawing crowds and fans along the race routes.

A symbol for Rome and Lazio

With its combination of urban settings unique in the world and some of the most technical rally roads in Italy, the Rally di Roma Capitale has established itself as one of the most followed motorsport events on the continental scene. The backdrop of the Eternal City, from the Imperial Forums to the glimpses of St. Peter's Basilica chosen for the awards ceremonies, makes every edition an unmissable appointment for those who love engines and want to experience Lazio from a different perspective.

Rally di Roma Capitale — edition 2026

The 14th edition of the Rally di Roma Capitale took place from July 3 to 5, 2026, counting for the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) and the Italian Absolute Rally Championship (CIAR). Three days of special stages between the Colosseum, the Rieti area, and the Aniene Valley, with the grand finale in the setting of Via della Conciliazione and the flyover of the Frecce Tricolori.

Rally di Roma Capitale 2026

The fourteenth edition, held from July 3 to 5, 2026, confirmed the Rally di Roma Capitale as one of the major events in European rallying. The race kicked off on Friday with the Tuscolo Qualifying Stage and the spectacular "Colosseo ACI Roma" city stage, before moving into the heart of the action with the special stages of the Rieti area and the Aniene Valley. The Italian crew of Roberto Daprà and Luca Guglielmetti triumphed in their Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, ahead of Suninen and Avbelj, with Giandomenico Basso finishing fourth. A success that propelled Daprà to the lead of the CIAR Sparco.
