Three days of premier Italian off-road racing in the heart of the Marsica region
The Rally d'Abruzzo, also known as the Motorally d'Abruzzo, is one of the most anticipated events on the national motorcycle off-road calendar. Hosted by the town of Gioia dei Marsi, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Abruzzo Marsica, the event draws the best Italian motorally and raid specialists every year to compete on a technical and selective course carved through the mountains and dirt paths of the Apennines.
The event is organized by Moto Club Sirente with the support of Moto Club Lo Sherpa from Bussi sul Tirino, under the aegis of the Italian Motorcycle Federation. Gioia dei Marsi has hosted the rally for several editions: the paddock is set up at the municipal sports field, which serves as the caravan's headquarters for the duration of the event.
The Rally d'Abruzzo is a valid stage for the Italian Motorally Championship and the Italian Raid TT Championship (CIRTT), in addition to including GPX calendar trials. This dual competitive value brings a top-tier field of riders to Gioia dei Marsi, with approximately 280 competitors from all over Italy and over 1,200 total attendees, including riders, technicians, support staff, and fans.
The race spans three days of competition, covering a total of approximately 610 kilometers, divided into stages with long timed sectors:
The summer heat and the stony, treacherous nature of the Apennine trails test even the most experienced riders, making the Rally d'Abruzzo one of the most severe challenges of the season.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the Rally d'Abruzzo represents an important tourism and economic driver for Gioia dei Marsi and the entire Marsica area. The three-day event fills local accommodations, restaurants, and businesses while promoting the mountain and natural landscapes of inland Abruzzo. The event enjoys the support of local and regional institutions, which recognize its value as a showcase for the territory.
The fifth edition of the Rally d'Abruzzo took place in Gioia dei Marsi from June 18 to 20, 2026, valid as the sixth round of the Italian Motorally Championship and the second round of the Raid TT. About 280 riders competed on a technical and selective course, made even more challenging by the intense heat. The overall victory went to Mattia Capuzzo (Team Solarys), ahead of Tommaso Montanari and Pietro Degiacomi. The event, organized by Moto Club Sirente and Moto Club Lo Sherpa, confirmed Gioia dei Marsi as one of the national capitals of off-road racing, with over 1,200 attendees and a significant economic impact on the area.
Gioia dei Marsi can be reached by car via the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway, taking the Pescina exit and continuing towards the Marsi plateau. The reference railway station is Pescina, on the Rome-Pescara line.
The paddock and race headquarters are set up at the municipal sports field of Gioia dei Marsi. Registrations, regulations, entry lists, and rankings are available on the official Moto Rally & Raid TT website (motorallyraidtt.federmoto.it). For information: [email protected].
The event takes place in a mountain environment: appropriate clothing is recommended, and be mindful of high summer temperatures. Booking accommodation in advance is highly recommended, as they are in high demand during the event.
