A festival that tells the story of the Roman countryside

The "PromuoviAmo il territorio" Agricultural Festival was established in June 2026 in the village of Testa di Lepre, a rural hamlet in the Municipality of Fiumicino, within the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio. The idea is simple and deeply rooted: to finally provide a showcase for the activity that built the identity of this part of the Roman countryside—agriculture. Here, just a few kilometers from the airport and the coast, the landscape remains one of farms, cultivated fields, and historic farmhouses, and the festival was born precisely to remind both visitors and locals of this heritage.

The initiative is promoted by the Pro Loco di Testa di Lepre APS, a volunteer association active in the village, with the patronage of the Fiumicino municipal administration and the support of the Lazio Region, ARSIAL, and UNPLI. This institutional collaboration reflects the spirit of the event: not an improvised fair, but a project to promote the territory, built together with those who truly work the land.

Vintage farm machinery from the Cifani collection

The visual heart of the festival is the exhibition of vintage farm machinery and equipment, set up for the first time thanks to the private collection of Giuseppe Cifani. Tractors, plows, and historic machinery return to the square, allowing visitors to trace the evolution of field work in the Roman countryside, piece by piece: from the almost entirely manual labor of the early 20th century to the mechanization that changed the rhythm of the seasons forever. For the elderly, it is a dive into family memories; for children, a discovery worth more than any explanation.

Meetings with farmers and businesses

Alongside the exhibition, the event dedicates ample space to meetings and discussions with farmers and industry professionals. These are moments for open debate on the concrete issues of the supply chain: the protection of local produce, generational turnover in the countryside, and the prospects for peri-urban agriculture coexisting with the expansion of Rome and the airport hub. It is a rare opportunity to bring producers, administrators, and citizens together in one place at the same time.

Flavors, music, and community

The evenings of the Agricultural Festival are hosted by food stalls featuring local specialties, where the products of the Roman countryside become hearty meals: seasonal vegetables, cured meats, cheeses, and traditional Lazio peasant recipes. After dinner, the village comes alive with live music and entertainment, in a village fair atmosphere that involves families, groups of friends, and visitors from neighboring hamlets.

On Saturday, the busiest day of the program, there is a meeting with the Bishop and a theatrical performance directed by maestro De Angelis, followed by the usual musical evenings. The bond between civil, religious, and cultural dimensions is typical of Lazio village festivals, where the community has identified with the same calendar for generations.

Why it's worth visiting

Testa di Lepre is not a classic tourist destination, and that is precisely why its festival has such an authentic flavor. Visitors will find a village-scale event that is free and unfiltered, where the organizers are the inhabitants of the village themselves. It is also a great excuse to discover a side of Fiumicino that almost no one associates with the municipality: not the sea, not the airport, but the deep countryside of the Roman agro, with its farmhouses, dirt roads, and still-active farms.
