When the chainsaw becomes art, in the heart of the Aosta Valley
Profumo di Cedro is an international chainsaw sculpting competition held in Montjovet, a municipality in the lower Aosta Valley, as part of the local patronal festival (Festa Patronale). The event, hosted in the Berriat sports area, brings together Italian and international sculptors who compete to shape large logs of wood using only chainsaws, in front of the public.
The competition is divided into several stages: speed carving, a speed test where artists create a sculpture in a limited time, and the official competition, which takes place over several days culminating in the Sunday awards ceremony. The theme is chosen each year by the municipal administration, and the created works become the property of the Municipality, enriching the local area.
Having grown year by year, the event has become a major draw for enthusiasts of this particular art form, capable of attracting sculptors from various countries to Montjovet. Organized by Polisportiva Montjovet ASD with the support of the Municipality and the Aosta Valley Region, it is now one of the highlights of the Festa Patronale and a showcase for the village in the Aosta Valley.
The 2026 edition of Profumo di Cedro renews the appointment with chainsaw art in Montjovet, within the framework of the village's Festa Patronale. In the Berriat sports area, Italian and international sculptors will compete in speed carving and the official competition, culminating in the Sunday awards ceremony. The competition theme is chosen by the municipal administration, and the artworks become the property of the Municipality. Precise dates and the list of participating artists will be published by Polisportiva Montjovet ASD closer to the event.
