The spring festival in the heart of the Sabina region near Rieti
Profumi di Primavera is the festival that, every year with the arrival of the warmer season, fills the streets of the historic center of Collevecchio with color and fragrance. This hilltop village in the Sabina area of the Rieti province, in Lazio, hosts the event, which reaches its third edition in 2026. It was created to showcase rural traditions, artisan creativity, and the bounty of the Sabina land in a festive atmosphere open to families, curious visitors, and travelers alike.
The heart of the day is the market that winds through the town's streets: stalls featuring handicrafts, hobbyist items, vintage pieces, and an extensive nursery and floral section with plants, flowers, and arrangements that herald the spring. Accompanying the stalls is the exhibition "Collevecchio terra di confine," dedicated to the identity and history of this corner of the Rieti-Sabina region, just a stone's throw from Umbria.
The morning kicks off with "Collevecchio cammina," a scenic walk through the hills starting from the town center, perfect for discovering the landscapes of the Sabina countryside. In the afternoon, the spotlight turns to the "Primavera contadina" masked parade, which re-enacts the trades and rural life of the past, alongside the original competition for the best scarecrow in the Sabina region. Adding to the spectacle are the Sbandieratori Carbium flag-wavers from Calvi dell'Umbria, with their choreographed flag and drum performances.
The gastronomic experience is not to be missed: from the village stalls, you can taste typical specialties of the Sabina region, while in the afternoon, the fried pizza is servedโone of the most anticipated moments for visitors. The day is accompanied by live music and workshops for children, making Profumi di Primavera an event designed for all ages.
Attending Profumi di Primavera is also the perfect opportunity to visit Collevecchio, with its historic center, churches, and views over the Tiber Valley. The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Collevecchio, is one of the most beloved spring initiatives in this corner of Lazio, where the local territory and its traditions are the true protagonists.
