The dialect theatre season of the Primiero Valley
The Primiero Teatro Festival is the premier theatre event of the Primiero valley, in the autonomous province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. Reaching its 29th edition in 2026, the event is promoted by the "El Feral" Theatre Company of Primiero, one of the most active local drama groups, in collaboration with the San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero and Vanoi Tourist Board.
The festival was born with a specific goal: to bring popular theatre to the valley during the quieter months, offering residents and visitors a calendar of evenings filled with comedy and dialect. Each season brings together various Trentino amateur drama groups, who take turns on stage with brilliant two-act comedies in dialect, often inspired by the daily life and traditions of mountain communities.
Performances are held in the parish oratory theatres of the valley's villages, particularly at the Mezzano Oratory Theatre, but also in Tonadico and Pieve di Fiera di Primiero, the historical hubs of social and cultural life in Primiero.
More than just a festival, Primiero Teatro represents a true cultural stronghold: through dialect and popular comedy, the "El Feral" Company and other drama groups pass on the social values and identity of mountain folk from season to season, keeping alive a tradition that involves entire families from the Municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza and the entire valley.
The 2025-2026 season, now in its 29th edition, featured a cycle of comedies in the Trentino dialect at the Oratory Theatre of Mezzano, in the Municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza. Among the scheduled events, on March 28, 2026, the play "Se pòl far senza" was performed, a brilliant two-act dialect comedy by Claudio Pasquini, interpreted by the Filolevico APS drama group; on April 11, 2026, at 8:45 PM, it was the turn of "Na gabia de mati".
The shows, with an entry fee of 8 euros (reduced 5 euros), confirmed the traditional formula of the festival curated by the "El Feral" Company: amateur theatre, comedy, and the promotion of dialect as a heritage of the Primiero communities.
The Primiero valley can be reached by car from Valsugana (SS47) and then along the SS50 Passo Rolle road. Shows are mainly held at the Oratory Theatre in Mezzano and in the oratories of the valley's villages.
Full price 8 euros, reduced 5 euros. Reservations are generally not required: it is recommended to arrive before the start time, usually at 8:45 PM.
Programme and updates are available on the local events portal and at the San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero and Vanoi Tourist Office.
