About Premio Il Gozzo

The Premio Il Gozzo – City of Monopoli is an annual summer event held in the evocative setting of Cala Batteria, dedicated to celebrating the best of Puglia. Organized by Canale 7 with the support of the Municipality of Monopoli, the award honors individuals and organizations that have distinguished themselves in culture, journalism, medicine, entertainment, and social commitment, during an evening featuring live music and comedy on the Monopoli waterfront.

Premio Il Gozzo, a symbol of Apulian excellence

The Premio Il Gozzo – City of Monopoli is one of the most anticipated summer events in Monopoli, located in the Province of Bari, in the heart of the Adriatic Puglia region. Established in 2005 and reaching its twentieth edition in 2025, the award honors the men and women who, through their talent and dedication, promote the name of the Apulian territory in Italy and around the world.

The event takes its name from the gozzo, the traditional fishing boat that embodies the maritime identity of Monopoli: a symbol that anchors the award to the roots and values of the local community.

A gala evening on the seafront

The heart of the event is Cala Batteria, a stunning spot overlooking the Adriatic Sea that hosts the awards stage every year. The evening combines the presentation of the awards with high-quality entertainment, featuring live music from orchestras and big bands, alongside appearances by well-known figures from Italian comedy and television.

The hosting and artistic direction, entrusted to historical figures of the event, guide the audience through the various award categories, balancing emotion, irony, and lightheartedness in a unique summer setting.

Award categories

Each year, the Premio Il Gozzo presents awards in several categories that showcase the richness of the Apulian landscape:

  • Culture — for individuals and institutions committed to promoting art and knowledge;
  • Information — for journalists and media professionals;
  • Medicine and Research — for doctors and researchers who excel in their fields;
  • Entertainment — for stars of cinema, theater, and television;
  • Excellent Youth — for young people who stand out for their merit and commitment;
  • Women's Generation — for exemplary female figures;
  • City Award — dedicated to those working for the community and the territory.

A city-wide event

The event is organized by the broadcaster Canale 7 with the support of the Municipal Administration of Monopoli, the Puglia Region, and the collaboration of the Southern Adriatic Sea Port Authority. Admission is free, with reservation required, reflecting the inclusive and popular spirit of an award that has become a symbol of Apulian pride over the years.
