About Frittella Festival

In the hamlet of Pozzo, in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo (province of Perugia), nestled among olive groves, the characteristic Frittella Festival returns every July. The protagonists are the sweet fritters, prepared according to a recipe passed down through generations and linked to the peasant custom of celebrating the end and abundance of the olive harvest. Alongside the fritters, stands offer traditional Umbrian dishes, and every evening the best orchestras get everyone dancing.

Pozzo and the traditional fritter

Pozzo is a hamlet in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo, in the province of Perugia, nestled among the olive groves of Umbria del Sagrantino. Here, every July, the Frittella Festival, one of the most characteristic festivals in the Gualdo area, is renewed. The sweet fritter that gives the festival its name comes from a recipe passed down through generations, linked to the ancient peasant custom of celebrating the end and abundance of the olive harvest with this dessert.

A table between sweet and savory

The food stands offer fritters in various versions โ€” with honey, orange cream, and other delicacies โ€” alongside the great classics of Umbrian cuisine: gnocchi with goose sauce, strangozzi with truffle, wild boar, and sausages, to be paired with local wines. Every evening, on stage, the best orchestras take turns for dancing evenings, involving young and old alike.

An authentic village festival

Now in its many editions, the Pozzo Frittella Festival is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Umbria, with good food, music, and popular tradition, just a few kilometers from Montefalco and the Sagrantino Wine Route.
