City of Design
For a few days at the beginning of March, Pordenone stops being just a city in the Northeast and becomes a City of Design. It's the Pordenone Design Week, an event that takes design thinking out of classrooms and studios to put it in direct contact with people: in shop windows, in companies, in squares, in a continuous dialogue between culture and business.
The program intertwines company workshops, where students and businesses work side-by-side, the original Lessons in the Window, which bring design education into the shops in the center, and a widespread exhibition that extends across multiple locations. A formula that makes the Design Week not an event for insiders, but an occasion open to the entire community.
The international dimension is strong: thanks to the Erasmus+ BIP program, the event hosts delegations of students from Finland, France, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Spain, making Pordenone a crossroads of European design. The concluding conference, dedicated to the themes of biodesign and artificial intelligence, closes the week by looking at the frontiers of design.
Promoted by the University Consortium of Pordenone with the Pordenone Design Association, ISIA Roma Design, and Confindustria Alto Adriatico, the event aims to build a stable cultural ecosystem, in full harmony with the path that leads Pordenone to be Italian Capital of Culture 2027.
The fifteenth edition of Pordenone Design Week, titled "City of Design," transforms the city center into a creative laboratory for five days. The opening is entrusted to a lectio by Luisa Collina, vice-president of the Politecnico di Milano Foundation, and the closing features a conference dedicated to the transition from biodesign to artificial intelligence.
