The Plurisecolare Mostra Mercato Nazionale degli Uccelli is one of the oldest events of its kind in Italy. Its origins are lost in time, with the first editions believed to date back to the 13th century, in parallel with the ancient Festa di Santa Augusta, the patron saint of Serravalle. It is held in Serravalle di Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso, in the charming historic village.
Birds, animals, and tradition
The fair exhibits songbirds and farmyard birds, as well as farm animals. On the morning of Ferragosto (August 15th), visitors can observe, learn about, and purchase specimens, and in the early morning, listen to their songs: a ritual that attracts enthusiasts and experts from all over Northern Italy.
The link with Santa Augusta
Historically, the market was part of the Santa Augusta festivities—which falls on August 22nd—and was held on that date, in the early morning hours. Around the mid-1950s, the organizing committee moved it to August 15th, the date on which it still enlivens the village of Serravalle today, blending devotion, rural culture, and local folklore.
