About Pizzoccheri & Sciatt Festival

For a weekend in February, Legnano transforms into a corner of Valtellina: Contrada San Bernardino opens its covered hall for a festival dedicated to the great classics of Valtellina cuisine. Steaming pizzoccheri, crispy sciatt, stew with taragna polenta, and buckwheat cakes warm up the cold evenings, in a welcoming atmosphere in the heart of one of the Palio districts. A journey of taste through the Lombardy mountains without leaving the Alto Milanese.

Valtellina in the City

The Pizzoccheri and Sciatt Festival brings the mountain cuisine of Valtellina to the Municipality of Legnano (Province of Milan), thanks to the Contrada San Bernardino, one of the eight districts of the Palio. In the covered spaces of via Somalia 13, the district sets up an entirely indoor hall, ideal for enjoying typical dishes even in the heart of winter.

The Valtellina Menu

  • Pizzoccheri: buckwheat pasta with savoy cabbage, potatoes, butter, and Casera cheese
  • Sciatt: crispy fritters with a melting cheese center
  • Valtellina-style Stew with taragna polenta
  • Desserts such as buckwheat cake with berry jam and chocolate panna cotta

A District Tradition

Like the other festivals of the Palio districts, this is also a moment of strong community cohesion: the members of San Bernardino take care of the kitchen and service, welcoming citizens and visitors in a convivial atmosphere. The covered and heated hall makes the event suitable for families and those seeking the robust flavors of the mountains in mid-February, just a short walk from the center of Legnano.
