The Patron Saint of Legnano

Saint Magnus, Bishop of Milan in the 6th century, is the patron saint of Legnano, a city in the Province of Milan. His feast day falls on November 5th and is one of the most important events in the city's calendar, deeply linked to the identity of the Legnanese community and its districts.

The Basilica and the Solemn Mass

The heart of the celebrations is the Basilica of Saint Magnus, one of Legnano's symbolic monuments and a masterpiece of Lombard Renaissance architecture. On the patron saint's day, the solemn Mass is held here, featuring the investiture of the regency and the awarding of the Saint Magnus Prize, an award established in 1977 to honor Legnanese citizens who have distinguished themselves in moral, cultural, scientific, sporting, and humanitarian fields.

The Bishop's Market

Around the feast day, the Bishop's Market takes place, an exhibition-market of typical products and crafts with catering services, which enlivens the city in the days leading up to the anniversary. It is a moment for meeting and showcasing the region's excellences, organized by the Contrada San Magno district.

A Community Celebration

The Feast of Saint Magnus also includes solidarity initiatives, such as visits to city nursing homes with the distribution of gifts, and convivial moments like the community lunch. Organized by the Contrada San Magno in collaboration with the Famiglia Legnanese, the Parish, and the Municipality, it is a celebration that tells of Legnano's community spirit and devotion, in the heart of the Lombardy Region.
