About Pig Festival

In mid-February, Montagnana celebrates the Pig Festival, a gastronomic event organized by Pro Loco Montagnana and dedicated to the popular culture of pig processing. In the historic center of the walled city of Padua, an ancient peasant rite is renewed, with tastings of cured meats and typical products, traditional cuisine, and a market. A festival of taste and memory that recalls the rural civilization of the Scodosia.

The tradition of the pig, heart of peasant civilization

The Pig Festival of Montagnana, in the province of Padua, is one of the most cherished winter gastronomic events in the Scodosia region. Organized by Pro Loco Montagnana, the event celebrates an ancient rite of Venetian peasant civilization: the processing of the pig, around which the family economy of the countryside once revolved.

Flavors, market, and gastronomy

In the historic center of the walled city, the day offers tastings of cured meats and pork products, traditional cuisine, a market, and stalls. The Pro Loco sets up its own Pro Locanda with a menu dedicated to traditional flavors, in a festive atmosphere that unites the community in the midst of winter.

Montagnana, a walled city to discover

The festival is also an opportunity to visit Montagnana, one of the best-preserved walled cities in Europe, with its imposing fourteenth-century walls, towers, and squares. A village in southern Veneto where gastronomic tradition intertwines with history and the landscape of the Paduan plain.
