Two days of masquerade celebrations in Piazza Cota
The Piano di Sorrento Carnival is the masquerade celebration that colors Piazza Cota, the town's central square overlooking the Gulf of Naples, every year. Promoted by the Municipality of Piano di Sorrento through the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, the event spans two days of the carnival calendar, turning the most popular public space in the center into a large open-air stage.
This is not a parade of allegorical floats, but a town square festival built around entertainment, play, and collective participation: a simple, popular formula designed so that no one remains a passive spectator.
The heart of the event is the little ones. The program revolves around children's entertainment, with shows, mascots, bouncy castles, music, and moments of collective engagement that fill the square for several hours. The administration's stated goal is to offer children a safe and supervised space to have fun freely, while families can experience the town center in a shared festive atmosphere.
Piazza Cota is the center of civic life in Piano di Sorrento: the Town Hall and the main commercial activities of the center overlook it, and it is the natural meeting point for the locals. During Carnival, the square changes its face and becomes, for two days, a large space for play, fantasy, and spectacle. The choice to concentrate everything here responds to a precise desire to enhance public spaces and foster social cohesion, bringing the party back to where the community already meets every day.
Piano di Sorrento is part of the circuit of events that, between February and March, enliven the entire Sorrento Peninsula: from parades in the hillside hamlets to square festivals in the coastal towns, Carnival here is a deeply felt popular tradition that combines typical sweets, handcrafted masks, and community rituals. In this context, the local proposal stands out for its familiar and neighborhood character, aimed primarily at residents but open to anyone visiting Campania and the province of Naples during this time of year.
Access to all activities is free: there are no tickets or reservations required. The Municipality explicitly invites citizens of all ages to wear a mask and participate in the double appointment to celebrate one of the most beloved festivals of the calendar together. Those visiting the coast off-season thus find, in the middle of winter, an authentic opportunity to connect with the daily life and sociality of a seaside town on the peninsula.
The 2026 Carnival of Piano di Sorrento was divided into two days. Sunday, February 15, starting at 10:30 AM, Piazza Cota came alive with colors, music, and entertainment, officially kicking off the carnival festivities. Tuesday, February 17, from 3:00 PM until evening, the party continued with new activities and entertainment moments to bid farewell to the Carnival in a climate of shared joy.
The program included entertainment for children, shows, mascots, bouncy castles, and moments of collective engagement. A double appointment designed especially for the little ones, but capable of involving families and citizens of all ages, transforming the square into a large space of play, fantasy, and spectacle. The initiative, promoted by the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment of the Municipality of Piano di Sorrento, aimed to enhance public spaces and foster community cohesion, with an invitation to everyone to wear a mask and participate.
All events are held in Piazza Cota, in the center of Piano di Sorrento (NA), in Campania.
By train: the Piano di Sorrento station is served by the EAV Circumvesuviana Naples-Sorrento line; from there, Piazza Cota can be reached on foot in a few minutes. By car: take the Castellammare di Stabia motorway exit (A3), then the SS145 Sorrentina; on festival days, parking in the center is limited, so it is better to leave the car in peripheral areas. By bus: EAV and SITA lines connect Piano di Sorrento with Sorrento, Meta, and the Amalfi Coast.
Free admission to all activities, no reservation required.
Event designed primarily for children and families: costumes are recommended. Activities take place outdoors, so it is useful to check the weather forecast. For information: Culture Office of the Municipality of Piano di Sorrento, tel. 081 5344426.
