About Piacenza Classica

The Piacenza Classica Festival brings great chamber music to the Hall of Honour of the San Giorgio Piacentino Castle, in the province of Piacenza. With the artistic direction of Monica Righi and Ivan Maliboshka, the event brings together young talents and established Italian and international professionals in a program that ranges from the classical to the romantic and 20th-century repertoire, in a historically fascinating setting.

A chamber music festival in the heart of the Castle

The Piacenza Classica Festival is an event dedicated to chamber music that takes place in the evocative Hall of Honour of the San Giorgio Piacentino Castle, in the Municipality of San Giorgio Piacentino, in the province of Piacenza (Emilia-Romagna). Promoted with the support of the municipal administration and also disseminated through the Piacenza Music Pride portal, the festival is the result of the artistic direction of pianist Ivan Maliboshka and cellist Monica Righi, the driving forces behind the project.

Program and performers

The event offers a program that alternates between young local talents and soloists of national and international renown. Over the seasons, alongside Maliboshka's piano performances, instrumentalists such as clarinetist Leonardo Zoncati, tenor Davide Sensales, and several special guests have performed. Among these, at the event on April 26, 2026, was piccolo player Francesco Guggiola from the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala and the Filarmonica della Scala, accompanied by flutist Giulia Pedone, in a program featuring works by Lovreglio, Casella, Reinecke, Bartók, Bonis, and Doppler.

The programs range from Baroque and Classical repertoire (Beethoven) to the great operatic works of the 19th century, with fantasies from Tosca, Don Carlos, Cavalleria rusticana, and Carmen, through to French music by Saint-Saëns, Chausson, and Debussy, and 20th-century compositions.

A historic setting

The San Giorgio Piacentino Castle, with its ancient tower overlooking the village of Val Nure, offers an ideal acoustic and atmosphere in its Hall of Honour for chamber concerts. The event is part of the broader musical landscape of Piacenza, in dialogue with the numerous initiatives in the province.
