The Pentecost concert by the Mauls music band in Campo di Trens
The Pfingstkonzert is the Pentecost concert of the Musikkapelle Mauls, the music band of the village of Mauls, in the municipality of Campo di Trens (Freienfeld), in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It is the most anticipated musical event of the spring for the small community of the Wipptal, the valley that descends from the town of Vipiteno (Sterzing) towards Bressanone.
Every year, on the Pentecost weekend, the band presents its concert program to the public, the result of months of rehearsals. The evening is a festive moment for the entire village: families, friends, and fans of Blasmusik (the brass music typical of the German-speaking Alpine region) gather to listen to their local band and share in a tradition rooted for generations.
The Musikkapelle Mauls was founded in 1842 and today has about 45 active musicians, with an average age of just over thirty. The band is supported by a youth section, the Jugendkapelle Mauls, which ensures generational turnover and keeps the musical passion alive among the village's youth. The group's motto, Treu im Wort, Rein im Klang ("True in word, pure in sound"), summarizes the spirit of dedication and community belonging that characterizes this organization.
The repertoire of the Pfingstkonzert alternates between different genres to suit all tastes: traditional brass band fanfares and marches, concert pieces for wind orchestra, arrangements of pop hits, and well-known medleys. The artistic direction is entrusted to Kapellmeister Martin Eller, who over the years has offered the public carefully curated and varied programs.
The concert traditionally takes place at the Haus der Dorfgemeinschaft (Community House) of Mauls, the heart of the village's social life. In some editions, the band also offers an outdoor version, the Open Air der Blasmusik, to enjoy the music in the setting of the Wipptal's Alpine landscape. Admission to the concert is free and open to everyone.
Campo di Trens (Freienfeld) is a municipality spread along the Upper Isarco Valley, composed of several villages including Mauls (Mules), Trens (Trens), and Stilves (Stilfes). The area, which is predominantly German-speaking, proudly preserves its musical and associative traditions: the music bands (Musikkapellen) are a strong element of identity throughout South Tyrol, present in almost every village and protagonists of the main religious and civil celebrations. Attending the Pfingstkonzert means coming into contact with this authentic culture, far from the major tourist circuits.
The 2026 edition of the Pfingstkonzert by Musikkapelle Mauls has been included in the band's official calendar for Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM, in the Pfingstkonzert / Open Air der Blasmusik format. As per tradition, the band from Mauls, a village in Campo di Trens (Freienfeld), offered the Wipptal community its Pentecost concert under the direction of Kapellmeister Martin Eller. At the time of publication, the details of the musical program had not yet been announced.
