Patronal Feast of Saints Peter and Paul - Valle and Cavalletto di Ocre

A tradition reborn after forty years

The Patronal Feast of Saints Peter and Paul takes place in the hamlets of Valle and Cavalletto, part of the municipality of Ocre, a small village in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. After nearly forty years of absence, the community brought this celebration back to life in June 2025, restoring a collective heritage of faith, devotion, and local identity to its residents.

The year zero of a new tradition

The organizers defined this comeback edition as a true year zero: not just the resumption of an ancient rite, but the laying of foundations for a festival destined to grow and attract more participation in the years to come. The project is led by APS Il Castellano, an association active since 2020 in the hamlets of Valle and Cavalletto, supported by the local Festival Committee.

Between the sacred and the profane

The program combines religious elements with civil and popular festivities. Liturgical ceremonies in honor of Saints Peter and Paul are accompanied by traditional brass band concerts performed from the bandstand, evening fireworks, and entertainment designed for all ages. There is no shortage of fun and inclusive activities for children and families, bringing the streets of the two hamlets to life.

Culture and local memory

Alongside the religious feast, the event hosts the cultural initiative Il colore… delle parole (The Color... of Words), which pairs literary presentations with collective painting exhibitions by local artists. It is a way to weave popular tradition with contemporary creativity and showcase local talent.

Ocre and its surroundings

The municipality of Ocre is located in a panoramic position at the foot of the Sirente massif, within the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park. The village is famous for its medieval fortified complex—the best-preserved defensive walls in Abruzzo—and for the monasteries of Santo Spirito and Sant'Angelo, testaments to a past rich in history and spirituality. Today, the Patronal Feast is a precious opportunity to visit this authentic corner of the Abruzzo Apennines and experience the hospitality of a small community that has rediscovered its roots.
