The patronal feast of Baia e Latina: a blend of faith, tradition, and entertainment
The Patronal Feast of Saint Vitus and Saint Anthony of Padua is the most anticipated event of the year in Baia e Latina, a village in the Alto Casertano area of the Caserta province, in the heart of Campania. Every June, the entire community gathers around its patron saints in a celebration lasting over two weeks, where religious rites alternate with shows and convivial moments that bring many emigrants back home for the occasion.
Spiritual preparation is long and widely attended. The festivities open with a traditional day when the images of the saints are carried to the outskirts and countryside of the municipal territory, followed by the solemn novena. A special place is reserved for Saint Anthony of Padua, honored with a triduum that culminates in a procession and the blessing and distribution of traditional bread. The day dedicated to Saint Vitus features a solemn mass celebrated by the parish priest, a service presided over by the bishop, and the evocative procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets.
Alongside the devotional dimension, the festival offers a rich secular program. The traditional fair invades the streets with stalls and local products, while the "Città di Baia e Latina" brass band accompanies the main days. Evenings come alive with folk music, tribute bands, comedy shows featuring Neapolitan artists, and large orchestras, concluding with the inevitable fireworks display.
Nestled among the hills and woods at the foot of Monte Cerro, Baia e Latina preserves a rural fabric and a strong sense of belonging. The patronal feast is the most authentic expression of this identity: a moment when the community recognizes itself, passes on its customs, and welcomes visitors in a warm and genuine atmosphere, typical of the small towns in the Caserta province.
In 2026, the festivities in honor of Saint Vitus and Saint Anthony of Padua extended from June 2 to 16, enlivening Baia e Latina for over two weeks with a program promoted by the Parish Unit.
The calendar alternated moments of faith with entertainment, featuring music, cabaret, and fireworks to crown the festivities.
Baia e Latina is located in the Alto Casertano area, in the province of Caserta. By car, it can be reached from the Caianello exit (A1 motorway) or from Caserta by following the provincial roads towards Alife and Piedimonte Matese. The most convenient train station is Vairano-Caianello, on the Rome-Naples line via Cassino.
Religious events and square performances are generally free to attend. The detailed program is promoted by the Parish Unit of Baia e Latina in collaboration with the Municipality; it is recommended to check dates and times at the local parish in the days leading up to the feast.
