The Patron Saint of Lagonegro

In Lagonegro, an important center in the province of Potenza overlooking the southern slope of the Lucanian Apennines, the Patronal Feast of Saint Nicholas of Bari is the most cherished religious event of the year. The cult of the saint bishop of Myra, one of the most venerated in Southern Italy, links Lagonegro to the great devotional tradition that radiates from Bari throughout Basilicata and Puglia. The feast is celebrated every year on the last Sunday of May.
