There is one day in Gallicchio when the entire village seems to hold its breath: July 16th, when the community honors Our Lady of Mount Carmel, its patron saint. In this village of a few hundred inhabitants, perched on the heights of the middle Val d'Agri in the province of Potenza, the patronal feast is not just an event on the religious calendar: it is the moment when families reunite, when those who have left for the North or abroad return home, and when popular faith becomes a collective embrace.

Between Sacred and Popular Celebration

The day opens with a solemn Mass in the parish church, followed by the procession that accompanies the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel along the streets and alleys of the historic center.
