About Panza... e Danza

In Capitello, the seaside hamlet of Ispani overlooking the Gulf of Policastro, «Panza... e Danza» has been bringing together the finest Cilento food and wine with traditional folk music and dance since 2019. In Piazza delle Radio Libere, stalls offer buffalo mozzarella, local cheeses and cured meats, fusilli and cavatielli pasta, grilled meats, and Cilento desserts, while the stage hosts local dance schools, folk groups, and comedy guests. Free entry and a festive village atmosphere just a stone's throw from the sea, in the province of Salerno.

A festival of taste and dance overlooking the Gulf of Policastro

Panza... e Danza is the summer event that brings Capitello to life, the seaside hamlet of the municipality of Ispani, in the province of Salerno, in the heart of Cilento and southern Campania. Established in July 2019, the festival follows a simple and recognizable formula, as suggested by its name, which plays on the Southern dialect: first you eat, then you dance. The stage is set in Piazza delle Radio Libere, just a few steps from the promenade and the Blue Flag-awarded beach of Capitello.

The food and wine excellence of Cilento

The heart of the event is the dining experience. The festival was created as a showcase for the best producers in Cilento, who bring their specialties and typical local products to the square: a true festival formula where you sit down to enjoy a full menu rather than just a single dish. The gastronomic offerings of past editions have included:

  • appetizers with buffalo mozzarella, local cheeses, and cured meats;
  • two traditional Cilento first courses, fusilli and cavatielli;
  • main courses of grilled veal, rabbit, and chicken with potatoes;
  • Cilento desserts and seasonal fruit;
  • local wine and beverages.

It is a journey that perfectly captures the cuisine of this corner of Campania: simple products, handmade pasta, meat raised in the hinterland, and buffalo dairy products—the very ingredients that made the Mediterranean diet famous, starting right here in Cilento.

Folk music, dance schools, and entertainment guests

The second half of the title is not just a play on words: the evening program is built around dance. The stage features performances by dance schools from the district and other towns in the province, followed by Cilento folk music groups that accompany traditional Southern dances, which are deeply felt in these parts. In the first edition in 2019, the lineup also hosted a comedian from the television show «Made in Sud» and midnight DJ sets, with food stalls opening as early as 7:30 PM to then give way to music until late at night.

A «plastic-free» event

From the very beginning, the organizers chose to manage the event with environmental awareness: instead of disposables, they use porcelain plates, glass cups, and steel cutlery. This is no small feat for a street festival, fitting perfectly into a territory that thrives on seaside tourism and environmental quality, between the Blue Flag beach and the proximity of the Cilento National Park.

Who organizes it

The event is organized by the association «Cilento... un Lusso», with the patronage of the Municipality of Ispani and the Pro Loco Ispani. It is a community event, built through the work of volunteers and the collaboration of local farms and artisans: one of those moments where the village comes together while welcoming the tourists who flock to the coast in July.

Capitello, Ispani, and the Gulf of Policastro

The municipality of Ispani is composed of three centers: the hilltop main town, the inland hamlet of San Cristoforo, and Capitello, which stretches along the sea and concentrates the village's summer life. From up here, the view embraces the entire Gulf of Policastro and, on the clearest days, reaches as far as the Aeolian Islands. A 16th-century tower recalls the centuries of Saracen raids, while today the golden sand beach is the area's main attraction. Participating in Panza... e Danza therefore means combining a day at the beach with an evening of gastronomy and folk music, in the most authentic way to experience the Cilento summer.

When it takes place

Panza... e Danza is traditionally held in July, over several consecutive evenings, with stalls opening in the early evening and shows continuing until late at night. The 2025 edition took place from July 18th to 21st in Capitello. The dates for the following edition are usually announced by the organizers and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
