Paniccia of Balmuccia

The 2025 edition of the Paniccia of Balmuccia renewed a tradition passed down for over a century in the Valsesian village in the Province of Vercelli. As every year, the preparation of the paniccia began in the middle of the night, with the lighting of the fires under the large cauldrons and the long cooking process of the rice and vegetable soup.

After the blessing of the cauldrons, the paniccia was distributed for free to anyone who arrived, in accordance with the ancient spirit of solidarity of the festival. The day ended with a community lunch in the village hall, an occasion for conviviality and renewed participation of the Balmuccia community around a dish that symbolizes the Valsesian Carnival.
