Four days of festivities featuring tripe and entertainment in the heart of the Ossola Valley
During the Carnival season, the village of Pallanzeno, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, becomes the stage for one of the most cherished festivals in the lower Ossola Valley. For four days, the streets and squares of the town are filled with costumes, joy, and the aromas of local cooking, in an event that blends traditional Piedmontese carnival customs with the warmth of a small-town community.
The true symbol of the festival is tripe, the absolute star of the Carnival menu in Pallanzeno. Its serving is one of the most awaited moments: a humble yet hearty dish, deeply rooted in the gastronomic tradition of the Ossola Valley, which brings families and visitors from neighboring towns together at the table. Alongside the tripe, there is no shortage of other local flavors and traditional Carnival sweets, from fritters to chiacchiere.
Beyond good food, the Pallanzeno Carnival offers shows and entertainment designed for all ages, from children to families. Costumes, music, and performances accompany the festive days in a convivial atmosphere that is the hallmark of village festivals in Piedmont.
The Pallanzeno event is an authentic Carnival, far from the massive scale of more famous Piedmontese celebrations but capable of preserving the genuine popular spirit of the festival. For those visiting the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area in winter, it is a precious opportunity to discover a less touristy corner of the region and experience a genuine tradition firsthand, made of flavors, joy, and hospitality.
The festival brings the center of Pallanzeno to life, a small town nestled in the Ossola plain, easily accessible from Domodossola and other towns in the valley. Its location makes it a convenient destination for a Carnival trip to discover Ossola traditions.
