Contemporary dance and ballet inhabit the loggias, cloisters, and theaters of Padua
The Padova International Festival La Sfera Danza is an event that brings dance out of traditional stages to engage with the most evocative locations in Padua. Loggias, cloisters, historic, monumental, and natural spaces become performance venues, in a project that intertwines dance, architecture, and community. The event, promoted by the La Sfera Danza Association with the Municipality of Padua, is one of the longest-running dedicated to dance in the Veneto region.
The program alternates between contemporary dance and classical ballet, hosting renowned international étoile dancers and companies. The choice of unconventional spaces not only expands the expressive possibilities for artists but also invites the public to experience the city in a new way, rediscovering its corners and architecture through movement and choreography.
The theme of the XXIII edition, "The City on Stage. Dance that Inhabits Loggias, Cloisters, and Theaters", encapsulates the festival's essence: transforming Padua's urban fabric into a large, widespread stage. Alongside the performances, the Association also promotes competitions for young people aged 12 to 25 – for the creation of an original image and literary text inspired by the festival's theme – involving new generations in the dialogue between the arts.
The XXIII edition of the Padova International Festival La Sfera Danza confirms the event's vocation to create a dialogue between dance and the city. The 2026 theme is "The City on Stage. Dance that Inhabits Loggias, Cloisters, and Theaters": historic, monumental, natural, and theatrical spaces in Padua become stages for contemporary dance and classical ballet, featuring international étoile dancers and companies.
The Association also promotes two competitions for young people aged 12 to 25, dedicated to creating an image and an original literary text inspired by the festival's theme.
