Baroque music, philosophy, and science around the myth of Orpheus
Orpheus, the singer capable of moving even the gods: it is from this figure that Orfeo Week is born, the festival conceived by the countertenor Raffaele Pe, from Lodi, and his ensemble La Lira di Orfeo, described as among the new reference groups for Italian Baroque music (Premio Abbiati 2019). Every year, at the end of November, the event transforms Lodi into a crossroads of languages: ancient music, philosophy, literature, science, and visual arts intertwine in a program that has few equals in the province.
The heart of Orfeo Week is Baroque music, performed on period instruments by the new generation of performers gathered in La Lira di Orfeo. But the festival broadens its scope: recent editions have featured guests such as Alessandro Baricco, Valeria Solarino, pianist Gloria Campaner, conductor Giovanni Antonini, and astrophysicist Ersilia Vaudo. Talks, meetings, and listening sessions transform the city into a laboratory of thought, with the Teatro alle Vigne as the main stage and other city venues involved, from the Santa Chiara Nuova complex to other locations.
A significant part of the festival is dedicated to education: workshops and meetings for children and students, guided listening sessions, and masterclasses in Baroque singing and violin. Orfeo Week does not limit itself to bringing big names to the city but builds a path that involves schools and the younger generations of the Lodi area.
The 2025 edition, the fourth, took place from November 22nd to 30th and culminated in the Italian premiere of Francesco Gasparini's "Ambleto" at the Teatro alle Vigne. The fifth edition is expected in 2026, scheduled for November, which will confirm Lodi as a surprising capital of early music and dialogue between the arts in Lombardy.
The fifth edition of Orfeo Week is expected in 2026, confirmed in Lodi's annual event calendar. The festival will maintain its multidisciplinary format, intertwining concerts of early music on period instruments, talks, theatrical productions, and workshops for schools. The Teatro alle Vigne remains the main stage, joined by other venues in the city center.
The detailed program for the fifth edition (November 2026) will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
Based on the established structure of previous editions, the week will feature:
