The Oratory Carnival in Valdengo

In the heart of winter, when Carnival brings life to the towns of the Biella area, the Valdengo Oratory opens its doors to the community for two days of celebration rooted in tradition and conviviality. Organized by the S. Biagio Parish, the Oratory Carnival is one of those genuine events that define the identity of small Piedmontese towns: no grand floats, just the warmth of a community gathering around the table and shared activities.

A festival for the whole community

The program alternates between social moments for adults and activities for the little ones. The first evening features the fagiolata, the traditional bean soup served in the late afternoon, which precedes the community dinner held in the Oratory halls. It is a ritual that marks the Carnival season in many Biella localities and finds one of its most heartfelt expressions in Valdengo.

The following day, the festival shifts its focus to children and families with an afternoon of games and snacks. Colorful masks, laughter, and activities designed for the youngest ones turn the Oratory into a space for play and social connection, where childhood memories for generations of Valdengo residents are made.

Tradition and roots in the Biella area

The Oratory Carnival is a well-established tradition in Valdengo. Over the years, it has been enriched with various themes and entertainment while keeping its community and parish spirit intact. It is part of the wider Biella Carnival calendar, which includes bean soup distributions, parades, and dance evenings that enliven the Province of Biella between January and February.

Where and when

The event takes place at the Valdengo Oratory, on Via degli Avogadro, in the center of the town in the Province of Biella, at the foot of the Biellese Prealps. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover authentic Piedmontese village life and participate in a popular festival far from the typical tourist circuits.
