About Open Cellars

On the last weekend of May, Umbria's wineries open their doors for Cantine Aperte, the flagship event of Italian wine tourism by the Movimento Turismo del Vino. In Torgiano, the capital of Umbrian wine in the province of Perugia, visit historic cellars and taste local wines, with vineyard tours, dinners with the winemaker, and the chance to discover the renowned Wine Museum. A weekend to experience firsthand the passion and craft of winemaking.

Wine tourism enters the cellars

Cantine Aperte is the event that invented wine tourism in Italy: on the last weekend of May, member wineries of the Movimento Turismo del Vino open their doors to the public for visits, tastings, and experiences among the vineyards. In Umbria, the event involves over forty wineries, from Montefalco to Orvieto, from Trasimeno to Assisi, with Torgiano among the protagonists.

Torgiano, capital of wine

A village in the province of Perugia, Torgiano is one of Umbria's most renowned wine regions, home to prestigious denominations and the famous Wine Museum. During Cantine Aperte, visitors can step inside the local wineries, including Terre Margaritelli, to discover production processes, taste local labels, and meet the producers directly.

A weekend among vineyards and tradition

The Umbrian program offers tastings, guided tours, picnics in the vineyard, dinners with the winemaker, and e-bike tours, as well as activities for families. Cantine Aperte is also an occasion for solidarity: part of the proceeds from the tasting kit is traditionally donated to charitable initiatives.

Open Cellars — edition 2026

The 33rd edition of Cantine Aperte in Umbria takes place on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, 2026, with over 40 member wineries of the Movimento Turismo del Vino. In Torgiano, visit wineries like Terre Margaritelli, with tastings, guided tours, and dinners with the winemaker.

The 2026 edition of Cantine Aperte, the 33rd, will be held on May 30 and 31 throughout Umbria, with over forty member wineries of the Movimento Turismo del Vino opening their doors from Montefalco to Torgiano, from Orvieto to Assisi, Bevagna, Umbertide, and Lake Trasimeno. In Torgiano, visitors can discover the local wineries, including Terre Margaritelli, with tastings and dedicated activities.
