Concerts under the stars of the Cava del Sole

Onde Sonore is the summer series of euro-mediterranean concerts that animates the Cava del Sole in Matera, the spectacular natural amphitheatre created in an ancient tuff quarry just outside the Sassi. The initiative is part of the programme for Matera Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026 and brings music from Mediterranean countries to the stage, in evenings designed for the general public.

Suoni Mediterranei: a bridge between the two shores

Onde Sonore is closely linked to the "Suoni Mediterranei" project, a musical residency and sound bridge between Matera and Tétouan, the Moroccan city that shares the title of Capital 2026 with Matera. The result is a programme that blends different musical traditions — Lucanian, Italian, North African, and Mediterranean — in a sonic melting pot that is at the heart of the thematic pillar of "Contaminations".

The Cava del Sole, a natural stage

The choice of the Cava del Sole is no coincidence: its tuff basin, with its natural acoustics and open horizon, is one of the most evocative venues for large outdoor events in the city. Under the Matera summer sky, Onde Sonore concerts become immersive experiences, where the landscape becomes part of the show.

Included in the calendar coordinated by the Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation and the Municipality of Matera, the series represents one of the key musical events of the Mediterranean Capital's summer, an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the city through the universal language of music.
