A journey through time in the park of Rocca Meli Lupi of Soragna
In the village of Soragna, in the province of Parma, Rocca Meli Lupi opens the doors of its large private park for On the Trail of the Meli Lupi, a multi-era historical re-enactment that transforms the residence's garden into a journey through time. The event, organized by the Rocca with the patronage of the Circuit of the Castles of the Duchies of Parma, Piacenza, and Pontremoli, recounts centuries of the Meli Lupi family's history through costumed figures, reconstructed encampments, and live demonstrations.
The peculiarity of the event is its diachronic and synchronic nature: along the path in the park, visitors encounter characters and settings from different periods, from the Lombard origins of the lineage to the High Middle Ages. Among the evoked figures are Lupo di Cividale, a possible Lombard ancestor of the Lupi of Soragna around 712 AD, and Goffredo Lupi, a Templar and Marquis of Soragna in the 13th century. The visit leads to a medieval encampment where you can discover the history of this important dynasty up close.
The park is populated by Lombard and medieval encampments, a Templar settlement with a commandery and armoury, and numerous stations dedicated to historical arts and crafts. Visitors can witness knightly duels and medieval fencing demonstrations by master swordsmen, exhibitions with birds of prey and wolves, the blacksmith's forge, and ancient games. Numerous demonstrations of painting, wool dyeing, cooking, and carpentry, as well as educational stations dedicated to weapons, medicine, surgery, pharmacy, and heraldry.
On the Trail of the Meli Lupi is also designed for children, who can participate in themed workshops such as Lombard goldsmithing, spinning, and medieval herbalism. The outdoor setting, in the large park of the Rocca, allows children to move freely and experience history in a participatory way. Rocca Meli Lupi, a historic residence still inhabited by the Meli Lupi Princes and rebuilt starting from 1385, serves as a natural backdrop for this one of the most evocative events in the Duchy.
