Cycling through the woods and Timorasso wine cellars
The Oltregiogo Days is a widespread event organized by the Oltregiogo Association that, over two days, highlights the Apennine hinterland straddling Piedmont and Liguria. Every year, the event involves a group of municipalities with a program of excursions, guided tours, cultural activities, and tastings of local products, designed to showcase a territory often off the beaten path but rich in nature, history, and traditions. All activities are free and require booking, making a slow and conscious discovery of the valley accessible to everyone.
In Vignole Borbera, a small town in the Val Borbera in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, the 2026 edition of Oltregiogo Days is dedicated to the natural spirit of the area, offering an itinerary that combines gentle sports, landscapes, and wine culture. The village participates in the event with two distinct experiences, both immersed in the countryside that frames the valley floor.
Oltregiogo Days is not limited to Vignole Borbera: the 2026 edition also embraces Stazzano, with its Natural History Museum and the Sanctuary of Montespineto; Arquata Scrivia, with its medieval walk from Piazza Bertelli to the north gate; Grondona, with its frescoed parish churches of the Assunta and the Annunziata and tastings of the rare Montebore cheese; and Borghetto di Borbera, with the Spinarosa botanical garden and the memory trails towards Rivarossa. A mosaic of experiences that reflects the authentic identity of a border territory.
The common thread of the event is the promotion of the hinterland through slow, sustainable tourism in contact with nature: cycling along trails, walking in the woods, visiting wineries, and tasting local wines and products. Visitors are guided by young escorts from the Oltregiogo Association, who share the stories and secrets of the places opened for the occasion. For Vignole Borbera, in particular, Oltregiogo Days is the ideal opportunity to discover a corner of the Alessandria mountains where bicycles and a glass of Timorasso become keys to interpreting the landscape.
The eighth edition of Oltregiogo Days, scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026, focused on the natural soul of Val Borbera and the Oltregiogo region. The event, spread across five municipalities, involved Stazzano, Arquata Scrivia, Grondona, Vignole Borbera, and Borghetto di Borbera with excursions, guided tours, and tastings of local products, all free and available by booking through the official Oltregiogo Association website.
In Vignole Borbera, the program combined outdoor activities with wine culture, featuring a bike ride through the valley floor woods and the discovery of one of the iconic Timorasso wineries, accompanied by young educators from the association.
Vignole Borbera can be reached by car from the Vignole-Arquata Scrivia motorway exit (A7 Milan-Genoa), at the entrance to Val Borbera. The nearest train station is Arquata Scrivia, on the Genoa-Turin line, just a few kilometers from the center.
The guided cycling route is free and open to everyone; bicycle rental costs 25 euros, though participants are welcome to bring their own. The visit to the Ezio Poggio winery includes a paid wine tasting with local products. Booking is mandatory and can be done on the official website www.oltregiogo.org, where updated schedules and participation details are published.
For the bike route, we recommend comfortable clothing, suitable shoes, and a water bottle. It is useful to check departure times in advance and book the winery tasting early, as it is subject to availability.
