Between biodiversity and spirituality in the heart of Val Borbera
Oltregiogo Days is a widespread event organized by the Oltregiogo Association that, over two days, highlights the Apennine hinterland straddling Piedmont and Liguria. Each year, the event involves a group of municipalities with a program of excursions, guided tours, cultural moments, and tastings of local products, designed to showcase a territory often far from mass tourism but rich in nature, history, and traditions. The activities are free and require booking, making the slow and conscious discovery of the valley accessible to everyone.
In Stazzano, a small town in the Val Borbera in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, the 2026 edition of Oltregiogo Days is dedicated to the natural soul of the territory, offering an itinerary that weaves together nature, science, and spirituality. The village participates in the event with two distinct, free stops that allow visitors to interpret the landscape of the Alessandria mountains from different perspectives.
Oltregiogo Days is not limited to Stazzano: the 2026 edition also embraces Arquata Scrivia, with its medieval walk from Piazza Bertelli to the northern gate and the Spinola crypt; Grondona, with its frescoed parish churches of the Assunta and Annunziata and tastings of the rare Montebore cheese; Vignole Borbera, with a guided cycling tour and the Ezio Poggio winery, known for its Timorasso wine; and Borghetto di Borbera, with the Spinarosa botanical garden and the paths of memory. A mosaic of experiences that reflects the authentic identity of a border territory.
The common thread of the event is the promotion of the hinterland through sustainable, local tourism in contact with nature: walking in the woods, visiting museums and sanctuaries, and tasting local cheeses and wines. Visitors are led by young guides from the Oltregiogo Association, who share the stories and secrets of the places opened for the occasion. For Stazzano, in particular, Oltregiogo Days represents the ideal opportunity to discover a small village in the Alessandria mountains through science, landscape, and spirituality.
The eighth edition of Oltregiogo Days, scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026, had the natural soul of Val Borbera and the Oltregiogo as its common thread. The event, spread across five municipalities, involved Stazzano, Arquata Scrivia, Grondona, Vignole Borbera, and Borghetto di Borbera with guided tours, excursions, and tastings of local products, all free and upon reservation via the official Oltregiogo Association website.
In Stazzano, the proposal combined natural science and spirituality, with the discovery of the Natural History Museum and the Sanctuary of Montespineto, accompanied by the association's young educators.
Stazzano can be reached by car from the Vignole-Arquata Scrivia motorway exit (A7 Milan-Genoa), continuing towards Val Borbera. The nearest train station is Arquata Scrivia, on the Genoa-Turin line. The Sanctuary of Montespineto can be reached both by car and on foot along the trail.
Visits to the Natural History Museum and the Sanctuary of Montespineto are free. To participate, booking is required on the official website www.oltregiogo.org, where updated schedules and participation details can be found.
For the path to the Sanctuary of Montespineto, comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the spring season are recommended. It is useful to check in advance the time slots when the nature guide is available.
