The amateur theater festival in Casalnuovo di Napoli, featuring Neapolitan comedies and new drama
The Oblò – Forum of Ideas Amateur Theater Festival is one of the most deeply rooted cultural events in Casalnuovo di Napoli, a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania. Established in 2015, the festival is organized by the Associazione Zero Chiacchiere under the patronage of the Municipality of Casalnuovo di Napoli, with artistic direction by Roberto D'Aniello. Every year, from October until the following spring, the festival provides a stage for local amateur companies, offering the public a long season of free performances.
Starting from the 2025-2026 season, the festival has found a home in the renovated Sala Teatro Pier Paolo Pasolini, located within the Via Fausto Coppi Multipurpose Center. Inaugurated in February 2025, the theater seats approximately two hundred people and is fully accessible to people with disabilities: a true cultural hub available to local companies, who can use it free of charge to stage their work.
The program alternates between classic comedies from the great Neapolitan theatrical tradition, original scripts, and works of new drama. Companies from Casalnuovo, Naples, and neighboring towns take to the stage in a friendly competition that serves as both a popular celebration and an opportunity for artistic growth. At the end of the season, a jury presents awards for the best productions, acting, and direction.
True to its name, "Oblò – Forum of Ideas" is not just a showcase for performances, but a meeting place for theater enthusiasts and families in Casalnuovo. Free admission to all evenings makes the festival an event open to everyone, capable of introducing younger audiences to the theater and showcasing the amateur talent of the Neapolitan region.
The tenth edition of the festival inaugurated the new Sala Teatro Pier Paolo Pasolini, kicking off on October 12, 2025, and continuing until the Gala Evening on May 3, 2026. Under the artistic direction of Roberto D'Aniello and with Carmine Coppola, the official heir to the Pulcinella mask, serving as jury president, the program brought together nine amateur companies from the Naples area for a series of free performances.
Performances are held at the Sala Teatro Pier Paolo Pasolini, on Via Fausto Coppi in Casalnuovo di Napoli. The town is easily accessible by car via the Asse Mediano and the Naples Ring Road; by train, take the Circumvesuviana line (Naples-Nola-Baiano) to the Casalnuovo station.
Admission to all performances is free. For information, schedules, and reservations, you can contact the organizers via phone or WhatsApp at +39 320 8194201 or follow the festival's official social media channels.
