The night parade of Carnival floats in Buja
In Buja, in the province of Udine, Carnival has a special face: the nocturnal one of Notte Bugja, the parade of allegorical floats that lights up the Piazza del Mercato in the center of the town. It is an event that blends popular celebration, the artisanal creativity of the float builders, and the energy of a community that loves to come together.
The parade has its roots in a previous tradition, interrupted after the 1976 earthquake and revived about ten years ago thanks to the commitment of Pro Buja. Since then, Notte Bugja has once again become one of the most anticipated events of the Buja winter: allegorical floats, masked groups, and a large crowd that fills the square to watch the night parade.
The event is part of a rich calendar of initiatives by Pro Buja, described as the true beating heart of the town's associative life, which celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2025. Under the presidency of Stefano Debellis, the association continues to preserve and relaunch local traditions, from Carnival to the Sagra del Toro.
The 2026 edition of Notte Bugja is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, starting at 7 PM, in Piazza del Mercato in the center of Buja. The night parade of allegorical floats, organized by Pro Buja under the presidency of Stefano Debellis, is part of a particularly rich calendar of initiatives for the association.
The detailed number of floats and the route will be communicated by Pro Buja in the days preceding the event.
How to get there: the parade takes place in Piazza del Mercato, in the center of Buja (hamlet of Santo Stefano), in the province of Udine. Buja is reachable from the A23 motorway (Gemona-Osoppo exit).
Admission: free. The parade takes place in the evening.
