Medieval re-enactment and falconry at Forte di Osoppo
The Forte di Osoppo, perched on the hill overlooking the confluence of the Tagliamento river, is one of the most historically significant places in Friuli: an impregnable fortress, the scene of sieges, and a symbol of Friulian resistance. Every year, at the beginning of October, this stronghold comes alive again with Discovering the Fortress, a historical and cultural event that fills it with re-enactors, artists, and visitors.
For an entire weekend, the Fort and the Rivellino Park host a packed program. Guided tours of the Fort and the Museum allow visitors to discover centuries of history within the fortress walls. The medieval re-enactment, curated by the Grup Artistic Furlan Medioevo from Valvasone, brings encampments and historical scenes to life, while the Acrobati del Sole from Cividale present falconry shows with birds of prey in flight.
There are also panoramic helicopter rides over the Friulian plain, gastronomy from local Pro Loco associations, live music, dance performances, parades, horseback rides, workshops for children, an artisan market, and nature excursions along the Tagliamento river. On Sunday evening, the sky lights up with fireworks.
With free admission, free parking, and a shuttle service, Discovering the Fortress is much more than just a festival: it's an opportunity to rediscover one of Friuli's most fascinating monuments and for everyone, young and old, to experience an authentic journey through time and space.
For 2026, the event returns to animate Forte di Osoppo and the Rivellino Park, according to the traditional early October timing. The exact dates and full program will be announced on the official organizers' channels in the weeks prior.
