The wood and forest culture fair in the village of San Carlo, Valle Anzasca
The streets of the historic San Carlo village in Vanzone con San Carlo host "Non solo legno," an event celebrating the deep bond between the Valle Anzasca communities and their mountains. Located in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province of Piedmont, the forest here is more than just scenery; it is a living resource to be nurtured and valued. The fair offers a visual and practical journey from the forest to the home, weaving together craftsmanship, tradition, and a forward-looking perspective.
The heart of the event is the rediscovery of wood in all its forms. Alongside traditional stalls and artistic craft displays, the event highlights the value of local wood as an energy resource for the future of the mountains. It is a narrative that bridges the hands of traditional artisans with modern technology in a valley where active land management is a concrete, daily priority.
"Non solo legno" is designed for the whole family. Throughout the village streets, you can admire wood-carving demonstrations, explore the local flavors area, and participate in activities for children, ranging from creative workshops and traditional wooden games to the "Pompieropoli" educational safety course. A day where learning becomes play and wood takes center stage.
The historic Torre di Battiggio hosts an art exhibition that brings wood, stone, nature, and painting into dialogue, dedicated to the landscapes of the Ossola region and the mountains. It is a testament to an event that goes beyond commerce, aiming to be a cultural occasion to rediscover the identity of Vanzone con San Carlo and the entire Valle Anzasca.
The 2026 edition transformed the San Carlo village of Vanzone con San Carlo into the capital of forest culture in the Valle Anzasca for two days. The chosen theme was the transition "from the forest to the home," with a special focus on wood as an energy resource and active mountain land management.
Among the most spectacular novelties were live tree climbing pruning demonstrations by professionals and live wood chipping of pruning residues, showing how forest waste is transformed into biomass. The event also featured artistic crafts, local flavors, workshops, wooden games for children, and the "Pompieropoli" course. The Torre di Battiggio hosted the "Armonie della natura" exhibition.
Throughout the streets of San Carlo village, on both days:
Technical meeting with speakers from the Piedmont Region and the VCO Province on new regional regulations, municipal forest planning, and biomass plant technologies. Following the conference, a themed dinner with a set menu will be held, by reservation only.
Exhibition dedicated to master Carlo Bossone and his students, featuring works that bring wood, stone, nature, and painting into dialogue. Free admission, open on both days from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
