The evening of December 31st takes place outdoors in Piazza Principe di Piemonte, the main square of the historic center, and is organized by the Pro Loco of Rocca di Mezzo for residents, vacationers, and ski season tourists.
A mountain community celebration
At over 1,300 meters above sea level, on the vast Abruzzo plateau nestled between the peaks of the Sirente-Velino, the Rocca di Mezzo New Year's Eve combines the atmosphere of a small mountain village with the joy of gathering in the open air. The square comes alive with music and entertainment leading up to the midnight countdown, followed by a collective toast to welcome the new year with well-wishes and cheer.

To welcome 2026, the Pro Loco of Rocca di Mezzo brought back the traditional New Year's Eve in the Square on the evening of December 31, 2025, in Piazza Principe di Piemonte. In the historic center of the Abruzzo mountain village, at over 1,300 meters above sea level, the square came alive with music and entertainment leading up to the countdown and the midnight toast. An open-air and free event, designed for residents, vacationers, and winter tourists, which confirmed the Rocca di Mezzo New Year's Eve as one of the most heartfelt end-of-year celebrations on the Altopiano delle Rocche, in the province of L'Aquila.
