The New Year in the Heart of Potenza

At midnight on December 31st, the very central Piazza Mario Pagano becomes the open-air living room where all of Potenza gathers to greet the arriving year. The New Year's Eve in the Square, organized by the Municipality of Potenza, is a large free concert that combines live music, DJ sets, and a popular celebration in the heart of the Lucanian capital.

Alex Wyse the Star of 2026

For the transition to 2026, the stage in Piazza Mario Pagano hosted Alex Wyse, a singer-songwriter launched by the talent show "Amici" and who later appeared at the Sanremo Festival. The evening opened with a DJ set, continued with the artist's performance at the stroke of midnight, and concluded with 90s dance music until three in the morning. A large crowd animated the square despite the three degrees below zero at the countdown.

A Free Celebration for the Whole City

Free admission makes New Year's Eve in the Square an event open to all, attracting families, young people, and visitors to the city center. It has become one of the most cherished events in the winter program of the Municipality of Potenza, which, along with other holiday initiatives, enlivens the capital of Basilicata between the end and the beginning of the year.
