The grand free New Year's Eve concert in the squares of Maletto
The New Year's Eve Concert in Maletto has become one of the most anticipated events of New Year's Eve in all of Eastern Sicily in recent years. The Municipality of Maletto, a small town in the Province of Catania nestled on the northwestern slopes of Mount Etna and famous for its strawberry cultivation, chooses every year to end the year in style by bringing a nationally renowned artist to the square for an event that is completely free and open to all.
The formula is well-tested: an evening concert that accompanies the audience up to the countdown, the midnight toast with local authorities, a fireworks display, and, following that, a DJ set to keep the celebrations going until late at night. For New Year's Eve 2026, the stage in Piazza IV Novembre hosted Francesco Gabbani, who led the audience into the new year with a show that blended lightness, irony, and reflection, entrusting his songs with the task of inaugurating 2026. The previous year featured Fiorella Mannoia with her "Fiorella Sinfonica" show.
The event transforms the town center into a large open-air stage. The square fills with families, young people, and visitors arriving from neighboring towns on the Etna side, drawn by the chance to see artists who normally fill large arenas live and for free.
Part of the town's broader Christmas event program, the New Year's Eve Concert is also an opportunity to discover Maletto and its territory, located in one of the most evocative areas of the Etna Park in Sicily. New Year's Eve thus becomes a defining appointment for the Maletto community and a tourist attraction for the entire Etna area.
The edition that inaugurated 2026 in Maletto featured Francesco Gabbani, who performed for free in Piazza IV Novembre on the evening of December 31, 2025. The artist led the audience toward the new year, choosing the warmth of the square and the power of his songs to kick off 2026.
The concert was part of the rich calendar of free events that enlivened Sicilian squares on New Year's Eve, confirming Maletto as one of the most sought-after destinations for New Year's Eve on Mount Etna.
Maletto can be reached by car via the SS284 road connecting Adrano to Randazzo, on the northwestern slope of Mount Etna. The Maletto train station is served by the Ferrovia Circumetnea line. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour and a half away by car.
The concert is free and open to the public, with no reservation required. It is advisable to arrive well in advance due to the high turnout.
As this is an evening outdoor event in a mountainous area at the end of December, very warm clothing is essential. Parking is available in areas adjacent to the center.
