The NBC Camps - International Basketball Camp is one of the most established sporting events of the summer in Castel di Sangro, a town in the Alto Sangro area of L'Aquila province, Abruzzo. Each year, for several weeks, the camp transforms the municipal sports facilities into a major basketball training hub, where young athletes aged 11 to 19 learn technique, team spirit, and sports values under the guidance of a qualified coaching staff.

The camp is organized by the ASD NBC Camps Italia association, which brings the NBC (National Basketball Camps) method to Abruzzo—a program originating in the United States and active in Italy for nearly twenty years. In Castel di Sangro, the camp has become a true international benchmark for youth training: every edition attracts boys and girls from various Italian regions and other countries, with instruction provided in both Italian and English.

How the camp works

The program is designed as a Complete Player Camp: it covers all aspects of the game, from shooting to defense, ball handling to offensive fundamentals, as well as game reading and athlete mindset. Days alternate between on-court training sessions, theory, and recreational activities for a complete residential experience.

Participants stay at the Sports Hotel in Castel di Sangro, a facility equipped with a dining hall, swimming pool, and both indoor and outdoor courts. Training sessions are held primarily at the Palazzetto dello Sport and the municipal sports facilities, set in a mountain environment that blends sport with the discovery of the Alto Sangro region.

The NBC Camps is part of the 'Muovi l'Estate' calendar, the extensive summer sports program promoted by the Municipality of Castel di Sangro, which, in addition to basketball, includes soccer, swimming, futsal, fencing, and other disciplines. Thanks to these events, the Abruzzo town confirms itself as one of the region's youth sports capitals, capable of hosting athletes and their families throughout the summer season.
